Ford has a good lineup of family SUVs which includes the Escape, Explorer, and Expedition. For 2025, two of those models have seen some big updates by listening to their customers. The Expedition is a vehicle that is utilized by families in many ways, whether it’s hauling the family to ball games each night or to their favorite outdoor activities on the weekend or even tailgating at their favorite football stadium.
Ford spent countless hours asking their customers how they can help the Expedition make their lives easier in how they use their vehicle. Being a 2022 Ford Expedition owner myself, I think they knocked it out of the park.
Performance, Capability, and Towing The 2025 Ford Expedition continues to have two length options, standard wheelbase or the extended length called MAX. There are 4 trim levels for 2025, Active, Tremor, King Ranch, and Platinum. The 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 engine is standard with 400 horsepower and 480 pound-feet of torque. A High Output 3.5-liter EcoBoost with 440 horsepower and 510 pound-feet of torque is standard in the Tremor and available in the Platinum.
The suspension has been enhanced for the 2025 model year which continues to have independent front and rear suspension with stabilizer bars. Towing capacity is 7000 pounds without the need for a load-leveling bar and 9600 pounds max with a weight distributing hitch. Pro Trailer Hitch Assist and Pro Trailer Backup Assist will help you hitch up a trailer and back up the trailer as well.
All-New Exterior and Cargo Area The front end has been redesigned with new headlamps, signature lighting, grilles, and bumpers including front skid plates. The rear of the vehicle has been updated by the introduction of Ford’s Split Gate. The Split Gate allows you to lift the top three quarters of the liftgate, leaving the bottom in place to hold in those rolling items you are carrying in the rear cargo area. The lower quarter can also be lowered to create a tailgate for sitting food or people on, it can handle up to 500 pounds. There is an available Open-on Approach that will let you choose to open just the top or the top and bottom at the same time. You can use the Cargo Tailgate Manager to give you back support for those sitting on the tailgate or as a shelf for tailgating.
Managing your cargo is easier now with the class-exclusive third row 40/20/40 split bench seat. This allows you to lower the middle seat for the second and third row for those long items like skis, fishing rods, or lumber. This allows 6 people seating with 2 seats down for those long cargo items. The Expedition continues to have Zone Lighting available now with more lights on the bottom of the liftgate while open, on the bottom of the rear spoiler while closed, and adding lights to the roof rack for more lighting beside the vehicle.
Interior Refinements at it's Best My favorite part of the redesigned Expedition is the interior with an all-new dash and instrument panel that includes a class-exclusive 24 inch panoramic display for all the information right in front of you while driving and a new 13.2” center stack touchscreen with the new Ford Digital Experience. More on the Ford Digital Experience later.
The steering wheel is all new as well with a flattened shape at the top and bottom and two soft d-pads for your cruise control and screen select buttons that respond just by putting your fingers over the area, no hard presses needed. The console is all new with big storage under the armrest and a wireless charging pad in the area to the left of the big cupholders. And then there is the power sliding console with plenty of storage available for a big purse or bag. You can stow those valuables away and power the console back into place so no one can see them.
The passengers in the second row aren’t forgotten with new Digital Device Holders on the back of the front row seats. They can hold cell phones or tablets with several holders to accommodate them. There are also 2 USB-C power sources on the back of each of the front row seats to keep them all powered up for the long road trip. Each front row seat backs also have map pockets with a big and small pocket so those smaller items don’t get lost deep down in those bigger map pockets.
Advanced Technology for Everyone Now let’s talk about technology because the Expedition has plenty with the new Ford Digital Experience and the available BlueCruise. The Ford Digital Experience is centered around the voice activated Google Assistant and Alexa Built-in. You can use your voice to control the temperature, search for information, help with navigation, making calls, or finding your favorite satellite radio station. The all-new Ford Connectivity Package gives owners the use of Wi-Fi hotspots, Google Play apps and embedded Google Maps, you will have a 1 year trial or you can purchase a one-time activation that lasts a minimum of 7 years. Or you can subscribe after your trial for annual plans.
For 2025, 90% of the Expeditions will be equipped with the BlueCruise hardware including the base Active trim models. The vehicles will come with a 90 day trial or a 1 year trial on some Expedition configurations. Ford just announced lower prices for annual and a one time subscription options that can be purchased at the time of delivery so you can include it in your payment if financing. The 2025 Ford Expedition will come with the most current version, BlueCruise 1.4 with Lane Change Assist, In-Lane Repositioning, predictive speed assist that helps on tight curves, and better ability to work in inclement weather like rain and when sun would normally affect the sensors.
All-New Ford Expedition TREMOR
Off-roading with the Expedition just got better with the all-new Tremor. More capable than the 2024 Ford Expedition Timberline with Raptor inspired capabilities. More power with the High Output 440 horsepower and 510 pound-feet torque 3.5-liter EcoBoost engine that is found in the F-150 Raptor. Re-tuned suspension and Electric Power-Assisted Steering. Underbody protection for the front axle, transfer case, and fuel tank. Off-road lights in the grille and Raptor running boards are also included. To get you further up the trail, Ford is including the Rock Crawl Mode, Trail Turn Assist, and Trail 1-Pedal that we see on the F-150 Tremor and Raptor as well as on the Ford Bronco. Don’t forget about all the cool orange accents on the grille, front tow hooks, wheels, liftgate, and interior stitching and embroidered seat backs.
The 2025 Ford Expedition can be ordered at your local Ford dealer starting the afternoon of October 24th, 2024 with production starting in January of 2025. Those first built Expeditions should hit the dealerships in March or April of 2025.
